From what I can gather--being a good airsoft sniper takes alot of time, money, and messing around with your rifle.

Well, if you want a good gun that you can start off with, get a VSR-10. Once, oyu get more money, you can then upgrade the gun to a more serious sniper. Most upgraded snipers that people play with around here (including me) are about in the $1200 range.

A springer would be a good starter. I've used and liked the Super 9, but you will have to upgrade it. But more than a good long range gun, IMO, you need stealth to be a good sniper. More often than not, you will be more effective if you attack from a hidden position, even at a close range. A ghille suit will help. You can build your own easily enough, just take your time. You might want to buy some action ghille from the link below too. Alot of these are paintball sites but they will help. The tactics are similar. Again, as a new sniper, more than a good gun, you need to be stealthy.

Do never buy Super 9. Lol. It has hopup, and its not adjustable. It has a 2 part barrel. Its mag system thats included takes longer to reload then a pistol mag does by hand. Invest in a VSR-10.

I plan on upgrading my rifle soon enough, but a good starter sniper is the UTG one. My friend actually won one, and he says it's a good starter weapon, but not a good gun to keep for a long time, as most or all internals of UTG's tend to breakdown. I myself have an APS Type L96 sniper rifle, and I really like it a lot.

A UTG seems to be a nice choice, you don't really have to do much to get an OK starter sniper rifle, and even a good one doesnt have to look like this:

All you really need is a good barrel, hopup, and scope. You also need a decent velocity spring.

lol the reason I said get the super 9 is because it's REALLY light. As for range, power, and accuracy... it falls short.

For the amount of money it costs to be a sniper--I'd rather get a stockpile of AEG's.
