KWA M4 flashhider removal

Postby Iannios » Mon Feb 08, 2010 3:51 pm

Are the flashhiders that come stock with the new KWA M4's glued on or does it just take some force to get it off?
I don't want to try unscrewing it, because i tried that on my on my old echo1 and it was glued on and i ended up stripping the threads.

Mine was glued. But be careful, one of my friends outer barrel came off when he twisted too hard. It turned out that the flash hider was jammed onto the threads, not screwed on, which I doubt is the case with yours.

Try using a blow dryer for about five or ten minutes on it to kill the glue. Also, search for pins and hex screws on it. I'm not sure how the KWA guns are, but my E1 had them and they are absolutely awful. >_>

Yes, but make sure your other hand is gripping the barrel for the best torque of getting it off.

Do not twist your KWA flashhider!!!

It has a miniscule pin screw that is holding it on.
You will need to get a super small allen wrench to loosen that before you try to take it off.
There is no glue whatsoever so you are good to twist clockwise once the screw is loosened. (That means righty is loosey and lefty is tighty)

The above info is for the new KM4 guns, so if you have an old one it might not be entirely accurate.

I just took one off a KWA M4; there is a set screw on the bottom, loosen or remove. Threads are reverse, there was a washer and spring behind the flash supressor (lock washer type assembly) this plus some kind of gunk made the supressor very hard to get off, the outer barrel screwed out of the gas block so I put it in a padded vise and got it off .

Hope this helps

I removed two KWA Flashhiders in the last week with this technique, I couldnt get it to go until I tried the washcloth trick. Second time i did it exactly like i finally got the first one off and instant gratification.

1. Make sure there are no screws holding the flashhider in.
2. If there are remove that screw.
3. If there is a woman in your family get her super powerful hair dryer (they usually have really nice ones that get insanely hot compared to a mans blow dryer)
4. Set your gun down on a flat surface.
5. Turn on the hair dryer on high and lay it down pointing directly at the flash hider.
6. In 3 minutes come back flip the gun so the heat is hitting the other side of the flash hider
7. In 3 minutes get a wrench and a wash cloth.
8. Put the washcloth around the flashhider (if its a small wrench you will only be able to put the washcloth on one side of the flash hider but that's ok it worked for me)
9. Properly adjust the wrench to be tight around the washcloth and flashhider
10. Grip the outer barrel firmly with your offhand (if it's an m4 with handguards or an easy to remove RIS, remove these objects so you can get a good solid grip on that outer barrel)
11. Turn the wrench Clockwise with your mainhand(depending on gun this could be counterclockwise) very hard. It will come loose on your first try.

I like that method, only I'd sub in a heat gun for the hair dryer if available (seriously, mine is hitting over 400 degrees).

If you use this method, make sure you don't touch the flash hider with your bare hands (it'd be a great learning experience for you, as you'd never do it again, but that's not the point). If you do, you'll have an interestingly-shaped blister on your hand.
