hoppes #9 ????

hi all new here and need to know something, what is this hoppes #9 and what is in it that makes it bad for guns? also I use something differant called hoppes elite gun oil, is this good oil? the companys tech. dept. said it is ok for my gun (full auto turaus pt99 pistol) it is a minirol base oil like silicone with no petroliums they said but is it safe for a full metal airsoft?

Hoppe's #9 is petroleum-based. It'll eat through your seals (like your hop up bucking) as if they weren't there. If you want to use a real-steel solvent, then I've used M-Pro 7 to clean off the metal parts inside of my P226 during upgrades. It's alcohol-based, but I didn't want it anywhere near rubber or plastic.

I've never used Hoppe's Elite, for real-steel or airsoft. I have heard of it, just not used it.

If you're going to use a non-silicone grease, then I suggest you go to Autozone and pick up a canister of lithium grease. One tube should last you years.

For my GBB's and GBBR's. I use Super Lube and for mixing with my propane, I use the paintball oil that you can pick up from Dick's Sporting Goods.

Used to play paintball so I have a ton of the stuff, it's cheap and if you don't have a local Airsoft specific store, it's readily available...

ok thaanks all for the replies but i didnt need to know about other lubes cause i have them i just need to know about hoppes elite gun oil if anyone has or have use it can you tell me if its ok. the company said it is a mineral oil which is what silcone is so i thing it is good, anyone???

I use hoppes no 9 to eat away the corrosive salts that are left after shooting Com-Blok ammunition. It is not suitable for airsoft as it will eat through some components like cheap plastics and rubber grommets. Considering airsoft guns don't use anything except for air I would suggest a good lubricant oil and some cotton cleaning items

Bottom line: I wouldn't. If you're wrong, then you might have a whole lot more problems than you did before, especially if it got into a gas pistol's blowback unit or inside an AEG's gearbox. Then you'd be shelling out some serious money to get parts replaced (whether you do it yourself or get a tech to do it; either way you have to buy parts).

Besides, just because it's a "mineral oil" doesn't automatically mean it's chemically inert (that's the main reason why we use silicone oil - it's not particularly known for its lubricating properties, but it is not chemically reactive with anything, and doesn't degrade rubber and other petroleum-based products, such as plastics).
