Here's the skinny (I used to sell them to Law Enforcement, Military, and Private Contractors as a profession)
Both the Propper Combat Coat / Trouser and the TRU-SPEC Tactical Response Uniform are similar in that they are both styled after the current ACU uniform (pocket placement, cut, hook & loop, mandarin collar, etc.). But, there are differences in the details that directly affect their notable price differentiation.
Propper Combat Coat / Trouser
- MultiCam VS (MultiCam pattern is tuned for Visual Spectrum ONLY. It does not qualify for Near-Infrared suppression capability as required by MILSPEC) - Color saturation is more "vivid"
- Made from 65/35 Poly Cotton Ripstop Fabric Blend with Teflon Durable Water Resistant coating - a tougher fabric that is more resistant to fading and wear from rugged use and multiple washings. The drawback is that it is "warmer" and takes a little longer to "break-in"
- Dependent on production run, the blouses may (or may not) come with Nametape/Service Branch and center Rank velcro patches sewn on.
- Trousers have thinner belt loop holes - more susceptible to failure under load.
- Standard hook & loop closures - "avocado" green
TRU-SPEC Tactical Response Uniform
-"Original" MultiCam (MILSPEC - treated for Near-Infrared suppression, harder to detect via night vision) - Color saturation is more subdued
- Made from 50/50 (MILSPEC) Poly Cotton Ripstop Fabric Blend - less resistant to fading and wear from rugged use and multiple washings, but is "softer" and more breathable.
- "Zig-Zag" reinforced stitching in high-wear seam points
- Blouse bicep pocket closure flaps include IFF cover tab. Optional sew-on center Rank and Nametape/Service Branch patches included.
- Trousers have wider belt loops - more resistant to failure from belt stresses under load. Cargo pockets have additional "hidden pocket" inside, sized for standard M4 mags. Slash pockets have reinforced "lips" for wear due to pocket knife clips.
- Powerhook Industrial Strength Velcro brand hook & loop closures - Coyote Tan
In General, If your wanting the authentic item, get the TRU - but be prepared to pay a premium price for it. The Propper Combat Coat / Trouser is more suited for the demands of Airsoft / MilSim, and is less expensive.
