Mesh mask ok?

Postby Jacob.bryan » Mon Oct 11, 2010 4:25 pm

I dont know if its been mentioned yet or not but i was wondering about face mask with built in mesh eyewear? Ive got friends with steel mesh mask and they work really good and im getting one but i dont know if fields will allow it? while the slight possibility of a fragment in the eye is possible, the mask dont fog they dont fall off and are easy to see out of. The possibility of fragmentation in the eye is low and is still not so bad considering the mesh practically stops the bb. Just wondering on if they were field accepted
thanks,
Red

Most fields only allow ANSI Z87 approved eyewear, and a large majority of those require them to be full-seal as well.

"Fields" is a very broad term, as each field as its own set of rules, guidelines, and insurance policies that they have to stick to. You may want to check with the owner of the field/s you play at and get their input on it.

It would be fine if you had glasses underneath, but that would kind of defeat the purpose.

If you just wear glasses, and maybe some goggles may work with it, I recommend one of these: http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/tmc-strike-s ... black.html

They work like a charm and aren't too expensive. You can find them on other sites too, where you don't have to pay as much for shipping.

I know for a fact that field legal guns even at a distance can break through mesh. Even if it protects, what if someone is using cheaper ammo or some low end Bios and it shatters the BB on contact with the mesh? Your best bet is some good Full seal ANSI rated goggles/or mask.

Well i think ill keep the mask but wear goggles underneath. i know it sounds pointless but id rather have full face protection instead of taking a shot in the chin... plus the mask look frickin awesomee lol. but thank you for the insight and ill look at getting some full seal goggles i just hate not being able to see cause of fog...and i breathe heavily lol

Look in the auto section at Walmart for truckers windshield antifog.

It's a thick clear liquid that coats your windshield (Or in this case, goggles.) in a very light see through shell that stops most fogging altogether.

It's what I've been using now for over a year and I've never had a fogging problem when I applied it properly.

Step 1. Dribble the liquid onto your inner and outer goggle lenses until it covers the entire lens.
Step 2. Let it dry for at LEAST five minutes, preferably 10-15.
Step 3. Wipe goggles until perfectly clean and see through
Step 4. ???
Step 5. Profit!

Toothpaste will actually have a good chance of abraiding (scratching) the lenses. If you're looking for a cheap fix, candle wax will work wonders (dribble a drop or two of hot wax from a lit candle, let it cool, then buff it off), as will a number of other homebrew solutions.
