the reason i use paypal is because you pay online, so you don't even have to hand them money, you literally give them the box, they ask if you want a receipt and your on your way.

Keep in mind that UPS & FedEx also allow non-FFL holders (AKA normal people like you or I) to ship real firearms, for a special fee in addition to the normal shipping charges (provided you're either shipping it to a FFL holder in another state or to the manufacturer). When you told the guy that the box had an airsoft gun, there is a possibility that all he heard was "gun" (or rifle, or whatever word you used to describe the gun itself), and went about that route for filling out the paperwork. Next time do as people have suggested and mark it as toys of some sort and there's a good chance this won't happen again.

well you can ship "deadly firearms" via UPS anyways..
