Best way to ship?

How would you go about shipping a gun if you dont have the original box? I mean, I doubt walking into UPS with a rifle would be a good idea... Should one just get a suitably long box, and pad it with newspaper and take that in?

Find a big enough box. Use plenty of bubble wrap and packing peanuts. Trust me on the bubble wrap and packing peanuts. Crumpled news paper doesn't off near enough protection against the way some packages are handled.

I've shipped several guns w/o the original box. Measure the gun, and then take the dimensions in to one of the postal supply stores. They'll sell you a box that will fit your gun + padding.
