Airsoft left-handed help?

Postby David Charlton » Tue Jul 19, 2011 5:32 am

Hello Everyone,

I am planning to buy some really expensive airsoft stuff off the internet, and I don't have much experience. and I am left handed, so am I going to have any sort of problems if I just buy a normal one or are there left handed guns that I haven't seen yet.

Many thanks a lot

Hey David,

You're not going to find an airsoft gun labeled as lefty, however some models work better than others.

Read through this topic, it has a lot of good info.

most modern weapons are designed with ergonomics in mind, namely the FN P-90, which is fully ergonomic in every respect. Some weapons are nearly impossible to use in real life left handed such as many right-side-ejection only bullpup weapons such as the L85 and High Standard 10. However in airsoft you dont have ejecting brass to worry about so almost any rifle or pistol will work, with varying difficulty in operating safety catches or magazine releases designed for the left handed shooter.

Most of the new KAC styled armalite platforms come standard with ambidextrous selector switches and magazine releases.

the SCAR platform features a left OR right side bolt handle depending on where you mount it along with ambidextrous magazine release and selector switches.

the Beretta 92/M9 platforms feature a left OR right side magazine release catch, which on many gas blowback pistols such as the KJW or HFC can be swapped for the left handed shooter's comfort.

AK style platforms are rather lefty-friendly from my experience as the magazine release is centerline, the ejection port and charging handle (and therefore hop up) is all located on the left side, along with the selector lever. Some airsoft AK's also have the adjustment bar button for the rear tangent sight located in a manner in which the shooter can adjust the rear sight with the non-firing hand's thumb without taking his eye off the target or sight picture. (varies by brand, ive seen the button on both sides.)

you shouldn't have any problems with any specific airsoft replica out there. your biggest difficulty will be operating an armalite selector switch with your index finger and ejecting the mag with your thumb, hitting the bolt catch with your index finger etc. nothing that thousands haven't done before you.
You'd be surprised what you can hit when you aim.

GHK all the way.

I'm left handed and shoot both real steel and airsoft. In airsoft you'll never run into a problem really, and if you do it will be minor and you'll work around it (us lefties are good at that, you know after getting screwed by right only stuff).

Real guns on the other hand.....

The Real-steel AR-15 style rifles are very lefty friendly by simply changing a few small parts.

The Aug is Ambidextrous in real life along with the tavor (you can change the ejection port.

The P-90 and FN-2k are also ambidextrous if I remember right

Really all airsoft guns with a paddle release are lefty friendly as there is no hot brass

I believe KWA's gas M4's will be ambi. They aren't coming out until far into 2012 I heard though.

Stay away from slide locking pistols. Get an AUG, AK or M14. This keeps you from fumbling with the mag ejector.
