My opinion :
Tokyo Marui - Still the king. The most durable brand with great out-of-the-box range because of the magical fairies inside the Marui Hopup. Newer gen guns (The Recoil Series) also have full metal externals where metal is supposed to be.
KWA - Good AEG's with lots of upgrade potential but older gens use quite a mediocre hopup system with the price considered (I had a JG that would outrange a KWA any day of the week, and the JG was stock.) I think it's an overrated brand but it still gets the job done.
Classic Army - I don't see a lot of people using CAs anymore. I don't have enough experience to have an opinion, but for the most part it seems KWA has taken over that crown.
Clones (JG, E1, CYMA, G&G, etc) - Honestly they're getting a lot better over the last couple years. I'd avoid G&G M4's (That includes the super duper ASGI "Customs") but if you need to save money, I see nothing wrong in buying a CYMA AK or JG MP5s. Things of that nature. Their performance is getting better and better, even if the FPS is almost always a little too hot out of the box.
Ares - People cry "Proprietary parts proprietary parts!" like it's some kind of plague, but on the newer AEGs (like the EBB G36s) there's very few proprietary parts, and you can still FIND those parts relatively easily. I used an upgraded Ares G36 for a day and it shot like a dream. All I know is, a good friend of mine who is a legendary tech called the Ares his favorite G36 AEG out on the market. And he's worked on them all (Clone, Marui, KWA, etc)
I don't have enough experience with other brands to have any more of an opinion on them. And that's all this is, an opinion. Feel free to disagree and state your reasons why.
