Returning after loooong hiatus - need suggestions!

Postby Genphlux » Sun Nov 27, 2011 2:41 pm

It's been quite a while since I've played so I'm not up on the latest quality brands. It doesn't look like it has changed all that much but I thought I'd open this up for suggestions on good high-quality gear. I don't mind spending a little extra to have something as reliable as possible. Definitely want all metal, as realism is a key factor for me, plus it adds to the durability of the weapon. I'm not into tearing down and upgrading internals, but I wouldn't be opposed to buying something that had been pre-upgraded by an experienced, veteran gun tech at a store as long as the upgrades didn't sacrifice much reliability, which I know is touchy ground.

I seem to recall Classic Army AEGs were pretty good. Still the case? Other thoughts?

lol, you will get varying opinions on who is better. CA and TM are always good choices. I like KWA rifles. I hear their GBB pistols are pretty good, but I have a WE M1911 myself. I've seen increasingly good reviews for JG but an equal number of bad ones.

Oh don't get me wrong, I didn't intend this to be a "What's the best gun" or "What should I buy" thread by any means. I was just merely confirming that nothing new and amazing had surfaced in the past few years.

Thanks for the info. That's what I figured. All pretty much the same.

My opinion :

Tokyo Marui - Still the king. The most durable brand with great out-of-the-box range because of the magical fairies inside the Marui Hopup. Newer gen guns (The Recoil Series) also have full metal externals where metal is supposed to be.

KWA - Good AEG's with lots of upgrade potential but older gens use quite a mediocre hopup system with the price considered (I had a JG that would outrange a KWA any day of the week, and the JG was stock.) I think it's an overrated brand but it still gets the job done.

Classic Army - I don't see a lot of people using CAs anymore. I don't have enough experience to have an opinion, but for the most part it seems KWA has taken over that crown.

Clones (JG, E1, CYMA, G&G, etc) - Honestly they're getting a lot better over the last couple years. I'd avoid G&G M4's (That includes the super duper ASGI "Customs") but if you need to save money, I see nothing wrong in buying a CYMA AK or JG MP5s. Things of that nature. Their performance is getting better and better, even if the FPS is almost always a little too hot out of the box.

Ares - People cry "Proprietary parts proprietary parts!" like it's some kind of plague, but on the newer AEGs (like the EBB G36s) there's very few proprietary parts, and you can still FIND those parts relatively easily. I used an upgraded Ares G36 for a day and it shot like a dream. All I know is, a good friend of mine who is a legendary tech called the Ares his favorite G36 AEG out on the market. And he's worked on them all (Clone, Marui, KWA, etc)

I don't have enough experience with other brands to have any more of an opinion on them. And that's all this is, an opinion. Feel free to disagree and state your reasons why.

G&G is FAR Superior to Cyma and JG. I've owned all three.

You see, G&G is unpredictable. I'm saying avoid the $150 Combat Machine blowback M4's. They're garbage and I hardly see how anyone can disagree with that.

That said, the mid/higher end spectrum of the G&G products can surprise with the quality. (In a good way.)
