Battery sparking when connected to charger?

I've got a couple of Intellect 1400mah 8.4v stick batteries and a generic "smart" charger (the one sold by Airsoft Revolution, if I remember correctly--it's been a number of years). All my other batteries charge fine except for one, which sparks as soon as I plug it into the charger, and the charger shuts itself off. When I unplug the battery, the charger comes back online.

Do I have a short in this battery or what? I'm honestly getting tired of Intellect's unreliability--I've had many of their batteries short/explode on me and, at the time of purchase, they were my only option in getting mini or stick batteries with a capacity greater than 600mah.

Have there been any recent developments in the battery realm where more companies are producing higher capacity 8.4v mini and stick batteries? Specifically 7 cell stick batteries that measure under 8", as anything longer will not fit in my Type 89.

Sure sounds like it. Now, the real fun starts - finding and repairing the short.

As luck would have it, my other Intellect battery doesn't work either. It seemingly charges ok, but when I put it in the gun nothing happens.
