Dead End: "Rock Ridge" ( combat village)

Postby Borscope » Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:37 pm

Talked to Chuck (Kees) & Richard (Dood) this eve, and finally building a combat village is closing on reality. What this post is for is to put the call out for help.

Dead End is a laid back field and we want to keep the field fees at $5 so if you can chip in some cash, bring some tires, got some treated lumber, labor/skills, or saw something on craigslist, whatever just check in first we don't want it to turn into a tire dump or something lol. Plans aren't final but treated 2"x4"/4"x4", treated 4'x8' plywood sheets, corrugated metal, tires, 55 gal drums, etc are the prime ingredients (like what we have in field 1 but MORE!). We will also need sandbags and sand. Wheel barrows/carts too as right now the site will be on the other side of the creek so it won't flood.

What is combat village? Combat village is an idea we've been kicking around for ages, and with the impetus brought by Richard's (Dood) request for Dead End's help things are moving forward. It will be a roughly 200'x200' simulated village made up predominantly of "huts" with various & sundry obstacles/cover to break up the open areas. For those familiar with Dead End, imagine multiple "bunkers" about 40' apart with more stuff like barrel stacks etc. I will post a sketch later.

I really think the back field with the tank would be the best spot to build personally, but it's up to you guys. I've got an easy way to build buildings, and was talking with Joe about it last week. I'll be more than glad to build anything. I'm also pretty sure that either me or gunny can get our hands on a bunch of pallets. Possibly drums, but would probably have to buy those.

Z: I saw it, just throwing the bat-signal up for all to see. I would love a cold one at the end of a game but...

Foster: Logistically, field 1 is best but it is muck quite often. The big backfield needs to be recce'd asap to check how badly it floods. If we bring in some gravel we could make the road easily passable for a truck (the mudhole area east of the water buffalo), also some in the parking area. Here's a thought, the east end of field 1 (between the bunker & defender respawn) seems to be dry usually? But I think we'd like to keep that area as is for short games. Also, if we take flooding into design consideration it may help .

Kees is going to check on the bridge & airport today, and said the airport is usually fine except for the little drainage stream that runs through it

Airport is a go for build

Portapot is a go POORAH

This coming sunday we are looking at a regular day for most, with a few of us doing site analysis and planning, but it's quite possible we could be done by May 1.

Parallel 38 will donate money for the materials to build one structure, and help however we can! Also we have access to a large number of metal 55 gallon drums if needed.

I have pallets I can toss in for supplies about 5 or six that have been sitting outside my wharehouse for way to long, only thing is I need some one to help pick them up. PM if interested in assisting on the pick up portion.

Dead End as you all know Battlefield has an abundance of tires. if you would like to bring a trailer or a truck or two down and get tires, they are yours for the taking. also i may have a few really big empty wire spools maybe five feet tall.
