Airsoft LARP/Fallout Scenario. UNAMYSTIC: THE BEGINNING. Jun

It is late in the night, year 2190, in the bustling town of Unamystic. The guard towers stand empty; there has been no threat to the city in years. While most citizens are in bed, the lights of the town pub still shine bright. Out of the darkness trots a newcomer astride his Nalger stallion, a two headed horse-like animal with 5 hooves that mutated and thrived in the former American Midwest. The young man, obviously wealthy, slipped off its back and tied it to a post near a tri wheeled bike and several dwarf mules. He entered the saloon’s smoky interior and approached the bar, gesturing for a drink. The bartender put down a glass and poured a vile smelling mixture from what appeared to be a plastic pepsi or coke bottle, still useful centuries after its creation. The hand pouring the bottle had only three fingers, and one pointed the opposite direction directly out of the back of the wrist. The outsider didn’t spare a second glance, mutations were a way of life wherever you went. He was not, however, used to the potency of the drink and after several more shots he was trying to strike up a conversation with whoever would pay him mind. The few inhabitants of the bar did not heed him for the most part, they were mostly older men intent on their game backgammon. But whenever the man’s boasts turned against their town, the oldest among them began to take notice.

“You southerners have it so easy here!” The rich man claimed with a hiccup. “The northern factions have it so much harder, what with all our bandits and disease and wars!”
At this, the older man stood up and approached this upstart at a slow deliberate pace. The yankee beamed, happy to have gotten some attention. The smug smile disappeared the instant the old man uttered a word though, replaced with one of surprise and a hint of fear.
“You have no idea what it took to get our town like this” Growled the old man. His voice was deep and as ragged as the scar down the side of his grizzled face. “Have a seat, mr northerner. Let me tell you the story of Unamystic.”
The suddenly sobered man took a seat instantly, and over the next few minutes his face started to show awe and respect for this old man and his story.
“After the limited international nuclear wars of 2050, most major cities and all government structure was destroyed. Horrendous diseases were released in a biological war waged between surviving countries, which when mixed with radiated cities formed previously incomprehensible results on victims. Between 2075 and 2153, no less than four internal wars were waged between factions vying for control over the still usable land. Of course you already know all this. But, the rest of our story you probably don’t. The last war, waged by our southeastern ruling body, The Dominion, successfully put down an uprising about 2155 around its northern provinces near that still glowing hulk of Charlotte, NC. After several crushing victories, the Dominion allowed armistice talks to ensue. Peace was soon declared, and those *darn* rebel forces melted away into their home provinces. Most would think that would have ended it, but the Dominion knew that unless it did something to rein in those rebellious provinces, there would be uprisings every few years. This is where I came in, along with many others.

I grew up in a tiny hamlet hidden in the mountains of old Georgia. My parents scraped a living brewing moonshine and growing a few crops, but a plague came through and took them when I was only seventeen. I was alone and desperate, and that’s when a man came and offered me a position on an expedition to settle the rebellious Dominion territory to the north. With no other options I jumped at the chance. After a week of basic training in weapons and survival, we were sent north. I was with a group of about thirty, all of us younger and homeless, seeking a new life. We were a ragtag bunch, the only things the Dominion had supplied us with was a pair of shoes, a new shirt, and combat fatigue pants that often had the bloodstains of their former owners. We had our orders though, go forth and do what you must to survive and prosper in the name of the Dominion. And so we travelled.

When we reached the tiny town of Unamystic, we had been whittled down by sickness and bandits. After arriving, we found much of the inhabitants were pro-Dominion. They simply wanted protection against the violence that rocked this province. We had no trouble finding work immediately, but we soon found how dangerous this land could be. My first mission I remember well…

The towns generator ran on the small nuke sticks* that were found in old vehicles. As the town population grew, more sticks were needed. So I was sent out to a neighboring town I knew essentially nothing about. As I approached the stench of rotten sewage and garbage was overwhelming. The few inhabitants I saw were ragged and thin, but exceedingly well armed. Cold, hard eyes followed me as I approached, and as I was about to enter the square a voice behind me arose;

“Stop rite der, you dominum scumberger” it said in a thick, boorish accent. I turned to find a seedy looking man in a wide brimmed hat and boots pointing a very real looking six shot pistol at me.
“We dunt like yer kind round heah, boy.” He spit out a dark stream of tobacco before continuing. “Sinc im in a dern gud mood rite now, ill letcha have tirty seconds to get outta my range. Yu gots no bu’ness round here, specially naked as a babe. Even yu should know ta carray a boomstick in this parts, now get!”

*Nuke Sticks: A nuclear battery used to power vehicles in the late 22nd century. Active lifespan of just under 1200 years.

I took off at a swift jog, back to town. One of my fellows was not so lucky. Trying to sneak into the bandit town after dark, he was shot without remorse. While a few others had small pistols carried from home, I was forced to borrow some money and buy one myself. Strapping this to my hip, I again entered the settlement. This time the sight of me earned a few cold looks, but the steel at my side kept anyone from approaching. I notice an old car parked near a saloon, and a quick peek showed there to be several nuke sticks still glowing under the hood. Entering the saloon, I inquired the bartender as to who owned it. He claimed it to be his, and after hearing what I wanted he stated that he needed some coal for his stove. If I brought him some coal, he would let me take a stick. He pointed me towards a mining operation next to a nearby river, and after a few hours I returned to Unamystic with a stick. The reward was enough to buy a proper weapon, and my new life began to come together.

Soon I received jobs defending caravans from a trader camp to town. This where I encountered my first real fighting, the bandits loved hitting these groups. It was their main source of fresh water. Everything near the town was contaminated, so we were forced to purchase it by the barrel. We also had to fend off plenty of raids, I earned this first big scar across my face when a group of migrant mutants hit us at night. One large specimen fought like a berserker, wildly swinging a massive blade. His sword may have scarred me for life, but his life ended before his scars could heal. I may not have survived if not for a druid arriving the next day though. You don’t see them much anymore, but at the time they were still a powerful force in these forests. Through his mixture of herbs and incantations, the wound closed within hours. Many at the time would not deal with those mystics, but I would respect them from then on out. Many of us owe our lives to them, I remember when Edgan over at that side table was shot clean through the stomach during an ambush, and those druids healed him up in a few moments. Bloody handy to have around, though they don’t talk much.

After a couple years the rebel forces were again trying to gain some momentum. They hired out men to kill for them, Melgar was a bounty hunter at the time as well.” With a nod the old man pointed in the direction of a smoky corner, where the newcomer had failed to notice a man dressed in an old ragged black cloak sipping from a flask and twirling a small but deadly looking knife.

“They came after us a few times” continued the old man.”But the thing was we could hire them to hit people as well. No loyalty there, just greed. They mostly used explosives or longer ranged rifles to pick off whoever they needed to kill, though a knife or a noose wasn’t too uncommon. Thankfully the only one to try to get me chose a crappy hiding place for his bomb, I bet he was surprised when he woke to find it tied to his leg with a few seconds left on the timer.

I was hired to lead the Dominion defense force against these rebels, and I didn’t much care who served under me. We had explorers, natives, mutants and even the odd druids if they needed a job. Eventually we cornered those Knights of the Crater, as they fancied themselves, and after a few months of combat we managed victory, but not after many bloody clashes. In one of them we managed to clear out the bandit town and hold it, depriving them of a base. Finally, after twenty or so years, I retired from my position and bought started that dress shop you see right up the street.
So boy, do you think we’ve always had it easy here?”

The yankee fellow looked long and hard at the older man, realizing that these seemingly old and docile men really were grizzled veterans of many unknown hardships. With a nod, he bought the few stragglers left in the pub a round of drinks and left. But he would always remember the story of Unamystic, and the part that required all these men to make it great.

Bandit
With little respect for authority you make your own way, trusting no one, not even your brethren. Robbing or gunning down unwary travelers is a way to make a living, or take the honorable route and complete missions for those willing to pay what you can't steal. Pull a bank heist, or rob a caravan of supplies. Freedom and wealth above all else!

Uniform: Jeans, cowboy hat, bandana across the face, etc. They are supposed to look cowboy ish. You don't need all, but you need some.

Mutant
With deformities all over, you are no pretty sight. While pitied by most, racist tendencies against you have driven you away from normal society. Make your way by showing you are still human and interacting with the towns, or hide in the dark trees and pick off the random explorer. You have the advantage of knowing the woods, and were to go in them. Your skills are highly prized as an explored and a guide, and you are enemies with none. The choice is yours.

Uniform: Bloody bandages, halloween gear, mutant handed gloves, torn up clothes, anything the goes with mutations.

Dominion Explorer
If you seek to be a true human, seeking no more than glory and wealth, be a Dominion Explorer. They hire you to be an explorer, guard, trader, and settler all in one. Go out from your towns and explore the uncharted forests and destroyed cities, searching for wealth and honor. Complete missions for payoffs, prove yourself a capable warrior and be hired to move valuables. Have the freedom to do whatever you want.

Uniform: Camo pants, solid top of any color.

Bounty Hunter
If you are the lone wolf sort, there is always a market for bounty hunters. You must be sure no one knows who you truly are, or what your face even looks like. Many sides will hire you to knock off individuals who are against them. Build up your reputation to get a great high payoff job. Between hits, missions can be completed to help build peoples trust of you. Stealth and deceit are your favorite tactics. Don't expect much love after you kill someone’s friend though, so you must be careful what you do.

Uniform: Black, with black and a side of black. Face covered. Look scary modern ninja ish. Black is the way to go. It is suggested that you bring other uniforms and disguises though, as you are the only class that can do so.

Druid
And if nothing else is you, don't forget the druids of the wilderness. Dark humans who have been mutated not only in body, but in spirit. You have little need for weapons, and your dress shows you to be of the druid kind. You float from place to place, enchanting or helping individuals. You are feared, but respected. As a lower druid you must become worldly before advancing in secrets, so you must interact with the lesser beings to complete your training.

Uniform: Flowing robe like stuff. Not very military, think semi-modern wizard ish. They will be key healers and very hard to kill, so keep that in mind. White is probably a good way to go, with odd symbols and medallions and such.

Things to bring:
REQUIRED:
-Hydration system.
-Dead Rag
-Correct uniform for faction

SUGGESTED:

-Weapons(Rifle, pistol)*
-Gear(Try to match it to your faction uniform)*
-Backpack or Rucksack*
-Map LINK
-FAKE Sword or Knife*

*(Must be purchased in game)

RULES:
-One hit kill with BB or knife
-When killed, two minute bleed out period before returning to faction base or staging area.
-Medic heals only performed by Druids or those trained in-game to be medics.
-While dead, half of the money on your person may be looted. If coinage is requested you must pass it up along with any mission or job items. Gear or weapons are non tradable and cannot be looted or lost.
-Only two heals are allowed, after third death you must spend 2 minutes “dead” before returning to respawn.
-Any non admin NPC or player may be killed, but they have long memories…
-Full face required for 18's.
-Full Seal required for everyone else

MINIMUM ENGAGEMENT DISTANCES: (all measured with .25)
-Spring pistols: 5 ft MED
-Gas pistols, AEG's under 350 fps: 15 ft MED
-350 to 400: 25 ft MED
-400 to 450: 50 ft MED
-450 to 500: 100 ft MED
Breaking your MED will be punished with inability to use that weapon system for the rest of the game. Second offense will lead to being escorted off the field.

FAQs:
Q: Which class is the best?
A: Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses and specific role, though the main is Dominion Explorer. However, each person’s preference is what should ultimately decide their class choice.

Q: I don’t have any of the required uniforms; can I just wear my Multicam and act along like one class?
A: No. These are not difficult uniform requirements, and this game is not meant to turn into just any normal game. This takes preparation and immersion, and anyone not wearing one of the five class uniforms will not be allowed to play.

Q: Can I start the game with all my cool weapons and gear to use?
A: No. You will be given a few coins at the beginning of the game and can earn more as the game continues. The only weapon allowed at the start is a spring pistol(not gas or semi auto) and/or a rubber knife(not longer than 10 inches). You must buy any other weapons or articles of gear in game, at which time that box on your player card will be marked by the NPC and you may then carry the item. Until then, you can store your gear in a bank or on-field storage site or in your car to be safe.

Q: Can I kill that pesky bartender and just take what I want?
A: Yes, but the rest of his faction may not take kindly to the sudden death of a member. And they probably won’t like you for a long time.

Q: What happens to a NPC when they are killed?
A: They will play-act dead until the current situation is over, at which time they will return to the way they were before. They will remember the individual that killed them for a maximum of one hour though. After an hour, they will not remember you killing them.

Q: Do I need my own ammo?
A: No. KSC Perfects .25’s will be sold for in-game money or found in pre placed caches around the field. The cost of ammo is included in your field fee. NO OUTSIDE AMMO ALLOWED! If you are found bringing in your own ammo instead of legitimately buying it, you will have a 30 minute time out off the field. If caught again, you will be asked to leave. Not only is airsoft a game of honor, but a large part of this game revolves around the scarcity of ammunition. By bringing in more ammo that is already in play you are bringing down the game not only for everyone else but also yourself.

Q: Can I add my own flair to the regular class outfit?
A: By all means! Add any sort of futuristic armoring or post apocolyptic touches you can think of. As long as you have a recognizable class and it doesn't go against any aformentioned rules, you can use every bit of creativity you wish.

Q: Explain how the ammo works exactly?
A: When you enter the field you will be given a small amount of ammunition. To get more, you must either buy it with in-game coins or find loot it from hidden chaches. You can also take it from other players who are dead and have not yet bled out, unless it is within a mag.

Q: So what has to be "bought" in game and what do we start with?
A: You start with water, a uniform, and if you wish you can carry a spring pistol or rubber knife(under 10 inches). That is all. Everything else must be bought, IE you pay an NPC, they will take your player card and check the box regarding what you just purchased, at which time you may retrieve the item and use it from then on.

Q: No vests just ruck sack style stuff?
A: Incorrect. You may purchase a vest, but remember you still want to look the part as well as a ruck would be very useful for carrying mission items. Both can be bought.

Q: Mag cap limit at all?
A: Due to ammo restrictions already, mag type will not be regulated. However, each mag will have to be "purchased"

Q: This is a LARP, are swords allowed?
A: Yes, but they will have to be purchased in game before you can use them.

Things to remember:

1: This is a roleplaying game first and an airsoft game second. If you want to just have a shoot em up game, look around at every other weekend Op and don't bother with this one. This is NOT a normal airsoft game. Don't treat it as such or you will be asked to leave.

2: Be creative! This is your chance to make that post apoc loadout you always wanted to try, go all out!

3: Read and remember the rules. Unless you really want to waste half the day trying to get people to explain what is going on.

4: Remember this is the first game of its kind OTB Airsoft has put on. The first hour or so may be a little hectic in game with slight changes going on. Please don't ride our case, the kinks will be worked out.

5: Treat this as real life, don't do stupid stuff or your game will suffer. Shoot that random fellow if you want, but rest assured he will remember it later on. Play smart.

6: There will be tons of missions and jobs to do throughout the day. Can't find something to do where you are? Look around, find other NPC's for missions or check with faction leaders for upcoming jobs, attacks or caravans. Your day will be filled if you look around.

I considered it, but having emailed and PMd with questions and no response (plus their website having VERY little activity) I've decided against it. Love fallout, love immersion games, but this is just not lining up. :|

Question: Can the bounty hunters were dark snow camos? it would be black, dull light gray, and white patterns
2nd Question: You said bounty hunters can also change into disguises. Does that mean dress all the way down and into something else just to be sneaky? If so, are you required to bring a second set of clothes.
3rd Question: I think it was the "Dominion" group. Are they allowed to wear chest rigs, vests, etc.????? Many questions before considering it.
4th Question: So will we be able to use our main weapons we brought at all. Or will you supply the primary guns.

Woah, sorry fellas! I do apologize for not getting back with you guys soon, I posted the thread a long while ago, but after a month or so of no activity I didn't continue checking up here. Most of the planning is currently going on on the ncairsoft.org forums, not the OTB website.

To answer questions:

1: Do you look like a bounty hunter scary dude in your base uniform? If yes, then you can wear it.

2: If you wish to bring other clothes to put over your base uniform, it is allowed as a disguise. Just remember, it will be almost july.

3: Yes, you are allowed vests, but only after you "purchase" them in-game. You will approach a store owner selling them, and he will mark off part of your player card saying that you are allowed to wear your vest.

4: Yes. You use only your own weapons. You just have to purchase the ability to use them in game, like the vests.

Update: Ok, here are a few rule updates that directly affect your class choices.

DRUIDS:

Will have thrown spells(heal, freeze, etc)

Will be much harder to kill than average player

Will only use spells or pistols or swords

MUTANTS:

Will be only class allowed to start with melee weapons and SHIELDS

Most other classes will find it nearly impossible to earn a shield.

Melee will be mutants strengths. Outfit your character as such.

BOUNTY HUNTERS:

Limit 8 slots. Pre-reg will open next week, Monnday the 14th. Paypal will be to glhaus2636@ngcsu.edu First 8 to pay will get the slots. Prepay is $25.

Bounty hunters may bring their own "bombs" and start with them. However, they are allowed only one. This bomb must make a large sound (non-explosion. MRE bombs not allowed) such as a loud timer going off or such where the target would hear it.

Bounty hunters will need a digital camera or phone camera, as most missions will require proof of success.

Bounty hunters are the only people allowed to disguise themselves as other classes, and may carry out missions as other classes.

Dominion and Bandit players will be able to learn many of the skill of the other classes, but will also have the resources of their own towns behind them.

ALSO: Vests and other gear that can carry hydro is now allowed from the start. No limits. This is in the interest of safety. EVERYONE must have hydro.

Gentleman, I have some really bad news.

I cannot in good conscience hold this game this weekend. Due to a very recent surgery, and another surgery immanent, the money I had saved away for props and all other expenses is almost completely gone. I held on hope that prepays would cover what I needed to buy, but their was a massive lack of drive for people to prepay and it was not nearly enough. I am so, so sorry for all of you that requested time off or made arrangements to come to this game, especially those out of state-ers. I am genuinely ashamed of my inability to somehow hold this together. However, I refuse to hold a sub-par game. You all expect the best, and I will not ruin my game hosting reputation by trying to scrape together a "good enough" game.

This game will be tentatively rescheduled for mid-december. It will be much cooler then, and allow for more customization of your individual uniforms.

Please realize I am canceling this in your best interest, as I would never want to hold a game as expensive as this without giving you everything you paid for and more. At this point, thanks to my suddenly rebellious body(Appendix, now wisdom teeth infection), I simply cannot make this continue to happen. I feel absolutely terrible about this.

At this point, I am going to speak to the field owner about holding an open field day instead. This is not assured, but as we already had the field I would be surprised if we cannot. Especially if you already requested off for an airsoft weekend and still want to play.

Again, I am so incredibly sorry for the inconvenience this cancellation has caused.
