Federal Troops Resecure Weaver After Day Long Pitched Battle
Militia routed to the hills; Unnamed militia leader vows 'revenge'.
Federal troops and Southern Nationalist Militia and Guerillas fought a near day long battle at Weaver. By day's end, the town was once again in Federal hands. The Federal commander, a no-nonsense Major, and his equally no-nonsense executive officer held sway nearly from the beginning of the battle. It was obvious that the militia was outmatched. They were unable to mount any kind of co-ordinated assault and once out of cover of the buildings of Weaver, they were routed to the hills. For whatever reason, the Federals failed to pursue the militia into those heavily forested hills, where Federal forces met stiff resistance and took heavy casualties the day before.
In a secret interview with an unnamed militia officer stated: "Let the Yankee bastards enjoy their victory for now, it'll be short-lived. We're in this for the long run and we will have our revenge."
From what this reporter can tell, this latest Uprising may well last a long, long time and exhaust Federal forces in a quagmire they can not afford to be bogged down in. Neither side shows any signs of giving up.
