In hostile country, it's not wise to divide a small force by a large amount of space. Should Alpha get pinned down by a superior enemy force, they would quickly be overrun, leaving only half the number of men originally deemed necessary to carry out the operation.
That said, dividing your unit into a cover force and a medic/rescue group and separating them by a small amount of space is not a bad idea. An outer perimeter and an inner perimeter. The cover force encircles the smaller medic and extraction group so they can work treating and/or cutting anyone out of the wreckage. The whole group would search for the aircrew together.
