1968, Just before the Tet Holiday.

Despite a ceasefire, the NVA and Viet Cong launch the Tet Offensive. A large number of enemy forces are bearing down on the Old City of Hue.
General Westmoreland desperately petitions for the use of tactical nuclear weapons.

After several hours of debate, the President reluctantly grants permission for one single tactical weapon to be used. A Marine Force Recon team will insert by parachute with one 68kg Mk-54 Man Portable Nuclear Weapon.

You will be inserted about 5 miles in front of the enemy in a night drop into jungle terrain. Set the yield on your weapon to 1 KT and set the timer to four hours. The enemy is expected to move within that timeframe according to intelligence. Hopefully they won't move too early. Your RTO will be in contact with G-2. Should it be necessary, you will detonate the weapon in place.

A night drop into jungle terrain is dangerous enough. If the mission goes North on you, you must set off the device. Even if bad weather blows you into Hue.

The Game

A large metal cooler will suffice for the device. Two kitchen timers are needed, one to set the yield on the weapon, the other to set the time.

Each member of the Force Recon unit will carry a PLC (Parachute Landing Card) to simulate his landing. There is no danger of premature detonation, but the weapon could crack and leak. The unit leader will carry an 'event card' which is a table of possibilities. Once the weapon is on the ground, the unit leader will pull the event card and roll two dice to determine the status of the weapon. If the weapon survives, proceed with the mission.

If everything goes according to plan, you will wipe out the approaching NVA and VC hordes and deny the area North of Hue to the enemy, and manage to survive as well. If not...well, you won't feel a thing.
