This was called a BRIGHT LIGHT mission. It was usually undertaken by 6-man SOG teams (if the pilot was down in Laos/Cambodia) or LRRPs if in country. If other assets were available and could get the job done faster, they were of course employed.
If the situation called for it, a SOG would go 'heavy' or double size (12 men). Not sure how Pararescue assets were employed. SOG was primarily Army personnel, but I would guess AF PJs would be part of a heavy SOG team.
